| Radon gas is a carcinogen associated with lung cancer. It is a byproduct of the natural breakdown of radium in soil, rocks, and groundwater, and occurs naturally all over the world. Outdoors, the gas dissipates in the air, but inside a building, radon can be dangerous. It can enter a from underneath a house, or leach into the water supply. Ground-floor rooms and homes with well water are especially at risk.
