CPFA developed two logos for certifying facilities who have volunteered for CPFA inspections of paper mills, bleach plants and/or de-inking facilities. Plants are visited twice a year to insure continued compliance with Totally Chlorine-Free (TCF) processing. The TCF logos are reserved for virgin fiber papers that have been produced without the use of pulp bleached with chlorine or chlorine compounds. Additionally, there is a Processed Chlorine-Free (PCF) certification logo. This is used for recycled content paper and indicates that any virgin fiber in the paper is totally chlorine free, and that the recycled content, while it may have undergone chlorine processing in a past incarnation, was not rebleached with chlorine-containing compounds when recycled.
